Food allergies are very common across the world and are caused when our bodies mistakenly identify a specific food as a ‘threat’ and produces IgE antibodies to fight the allergen. When the allergic individual next consumes the food or in some cases just touches the food, it triggers an immune system response releasing histamines and other chemicals in the body. This leads to various symptoms, depending on where in the body they are released.
Some of the foods that most commonly cause allergies are milk, eggs, nuts and fish.
